1. French Braid
Every Indian girl has experienced her mother or grandmother making these easy French braid hairdos for festivals or weddings as a child. Luckily, this wonderful hair trend is back with a bang. Women are sporting the French braid very often for intimate wedding functions and get-togethers because they are quite easy to make and pretty to look at. This hairdo is very versatile and works with all kinds of outfits.
Method:
- Comb your hair.
- Take a V section from the top of your hair and pin it to the back of the head.
- Take a small section from just below the pin. Divide this section into three parts.
- Make one row of a three-strand braid.
- Now add some hair from the front right side to the braid. Add some hair from the front left side to the braid.
- As you go on making the braid, keep adding hair from the front sides until you reach the nape of your neck.
- Take all your hair and make a simple three-strand braid on the length of your hair.
- Secure the end with a hair tie.
2. Waterfall Braid
You must have seen this style floating around Pinterest for a while, but couldn’t find a great tutorial laying out all the steps for a waterfall braid. Well, look no further, go through these steps and get the hairstyle of your dreams!
Method:
- Comb your hair and part them on one side.
- On the side with more hair, take a section of hair from the front (section 1).
- Take the section right below it (section 2) and cross it over the first section, away from your face.
- Take a third section (section 3) from the top of your hair and let it fall on top of section 2.
- Drop the new section in a way that it falls through the twist you created. This will reveal a waterfall effect.
- Take the section from the bottom of the hair and place it over the waterfall effect.
- Now take another section from the top of your head and continue steps 3 and 4 to make another waterfall section.
- Let this new section fall through the other sections of hair.
- Continue the process till you reach your ear.
- Tuck the section of hair in your hand to the back of your head with the help of bobby pins.
- You can also continue with a three-strand braid all through the length of your hair and secure it with a rubber band.
Note: This braid can be a little tricky. But practice makes perfect.
3. Messy Fishtail Braid
The fishtail braid is by far one of the best go-to hairstyles. It’s so unique, elegant, and super flexible. You can do a really tight, sophisticated braid, or you can mess with your braid a little bit to create a more casual, messy style.
Method:
- Start by pulling back clean, dry hair, and braid the upper half with a loose traditional braid.
- Take a couple of pieces and pull them around the braid and pin them with bobby pins to create a little texture at the top of the ponytail. Play with it a little bit until you’re happy with the way it looks. The messier, the better.
- Take the remaining hair and use a fishtail-style braid to finish the ponytail.
- Create a messy look throughout the ponytail by pulling at the braid to loosen it up.
- Secure the bottom of the braid with a small, clear rubber band or bobby pins and finish your new messy fishtail braid.
4. Rope Braid
If the three-strand braid is not your thing (or you can’t plait), here is a braid that’s easy, chic and totally in right now. And, voila! You can also find 10 quick and easy hairstyles here.
Method:
- Brush your hair and make sure it is smooth and without tangles. Use a little hair spray and comb through the lengths of the hair. Secure the hair in a high ponytail with an elastic band and wrap a thin section of hair around the base to hide the elastic.
- Section the ponytail into two equal parts and twist them both in the same direction. Now wrap the two twisted sections around each other in the opposite direction. The two sections are twisted in a direction that is opposite to the direction in which the braid is twisted. This will create traction and hold the braid in place.
- When you come to the end, leave the last 1 inch loose and secure it with an elastic band. Spray a final time to tame all the flyaways and add a finishing spray for a glossy shine.
5. Double Dutch Braid
Who would have thought that this very gym-friendly hairdo can be worn with an ethnic outfit with such panache! Wear this double Dutch braid – which is a version of the French braid where the strands move underneath, instead of going over the sections.
Method:
- Start the Dutch braid by dividing your hair into three sections. Place the section on the right under the section in the centre and follow this up by placing the section on the left under the one in the centre. Repeat this motion once more.
- Then, add a small section of hair from the right side of the braid to the section on the right and together, place this under the section in the centre.
- After this, add some hair from the left side of your braid to the section on the left and place it under the section in the centre.
- Keep carrying out the same motion of adding more hair into your right section and then the left section as you place it under the one in the centre.
- Continue this until you have completely braided your hair and secure it with a decorative hair tie for a fabulous look.
