The movie Gangubai Kathiwadi is out, and everyone is raving about Alia Bhatt’s performance in the film. Right from her ‘Dholida‘ dance, to her power-packed dialogues, to the variety of emotions she displayed on the screen. But other than her acting, we also loved the way the character was styled in the movie. Here are some of those statement-making choices that hit the high notes for us!
1. Bold Red Lips
Red lips are always a good idea, and every woman has a shade of red lipstick that is truly hers. They look feminine and bold at the same time. And if anything else, they help in bringing out the power woman in you! As you notice in the film, Alia’s shade of lipstick got deeper as she grew more and more powerful in the movie. So, put on some red lipstick and watch your confidence surge a few inches.
2. Kohl-Lined Eyes
Dark kohl-lined eyes and desi features are a match made in heaven. With her heavily kohl-rimmed eyes throughout the movie, the one thing that was unmissable about the character is her piercing gaze. When she lifts her gold-rimmed glasses with that defiant unblinking stare, it’s pure female goddess-like power.
3. Oxidised Silver Jewellery
Traditional, heavy intricate silver necklaces, with big chaand baalis and jhumkas to match? Yes, please! The beautiful silver pieces Alia Bhatt wore through the movie rekindled our love for traditional oxidized jewellery. They also complemented Gangubai’s dominantly white saree-clad looks.
4. Flowers In Your Hair
Using fresh flowers as a hair accessory is perhaps our favourite thing about Gangubai Kathiawadi‘s look. It’s classic, reminiscent of yesteryear charm, and makes such a statement in an unassuming way. From red roses and rajni gandha to the simple mogra bunch, we’re definitely rooting for this style statement to become a staple at weddings, functions, and festivals.
5. Ulta Pallu Saree
The traditional saree with the pallu worn in the opposite direction (traditionally worn by Gujarati women) is a classic, which Alia Bhatt wears for pretty much the entire movie. Timeless and never going out of style—irrespective of how old you are—this saree drape style is also form-flattering for most body shapes.
Kudos to the film’s costume stylists, for they truly understood the character of Gangubai Kathiawadi – a powerful boss lady with a heart of gold – and styled her accordingly. Many films leave an impression on viewers with their fashion and styling. Think Poo from K3G, Mastani from Bajirao Mastani, and now Gangubai Kathiawadi—another addition to the list!
