A brother-sister bond is one of the purest, one that is timeless and stays even when the times are tough. And, of course, during happy times. It is one that transcends the relationships around and holds its own. Bollywood has done a wonderful job in portraying some brother-sister duos that you’d love to watch time and again. Here are 5 of them that you must watch, if you haven’t watched them already.
1. Dil Dhadakne Do
The brother-sister duo of the elite Mehra family have each other’s backs, come what may. Played by Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra there are times when their parents question them due to their inability to understand them but that has no effect on the brother-sister duo. They keep standing by each other even when times are tough and even fight for each other when the situation demands. The rock-solid relationship that they share is unmissable.
2. Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na
Genelia D’Souza’s character Aditi makes an honest effort to maintain a healthy relationship with her brother, played by Prateik Babbar. The duo depicts a typical bhai behen ka rishta where they both are fighting almost all the time, especially in the presence of their parents, and yet share a very relatable bond of unwavering friendship and understanding. Despite being a loner, he shares a friendly bond with his sister. The brotherly camaraderie between them is very heartwarming.
3. My Brother Nikhil
At a time when there was a complete lack of awareness and sensitisation among people regarding HIV/AIDS, far more than there is now, this movie went far ahead of its times in depicting an HIV-infected guy and his sister who’s there by him through thick and thin. Though society shuns him for the fatal health condition, which he is not responsible for, the sister – played by Juhi Chawla, is a pillar of support for his dying brother, played by Sanjay Suri.
4. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
Divya Dutta who plays Milkha Singh’s sister is his primary source of inspiration. She is his backbone and stays by him against all odds and everyone who questions his dreams of becoming a noted sportsman. The brother-sister relationship has been beautifully sketched in the movie.
5. Fiza
Fiza, played by Karisma Kapoor, leaves no stones unturned to search for his brother who had gone missing during the 1993 Mumbai riots. She is prepared to go to any extent to find out the whereabouts of her brother and know whether he is dead or alive. The movie paints the inseparable bond between a brother and a sister that is heart-rendering to watch.
