Many of us have been there: you pick up a new product and instead of falling in love with it, you wonder “why-oh-why did I buy this thing?”. When it comes to makeup there are an almost infinite number of shades out there, so naturally choosing the right one can be tough. That is why we’re offering you some useful tips for choosing the best lip tint for your skin tone.
No matter what your natural lip colour is, you should try to purchase the brightest shade that looks good with your skin tone. This will make your lips stand out more and it will emphasise them. The perfect lip colour for you should allow your lips to ‘pop’ for sure, as long as it does not overpower the rest of your look. A good-looking face is an important part of the overall look of a woman. But we can spoil even the most expensive outfits if we don’t choose our cosmetics confidently and unhesitatingly. Therefore it is very important to choose a shade that suits your personality and complexion. Choosing the right lip tint shade can be a daunting task. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

10 Tips To Choose The Right Lip Tint Shade For Your Skin Tone
1. Know Your Colour Tolerance
The first thing to do when choosing a new lip tint is to find out what your skin tone is. If you’re not sure, try swatching some lip tints on your hand and looking at them under different lighting conditions to see which ones look best on your skin. Start with a few shades that look good next to your natural lip colour. For instance, if your pout is pink, try a shade of a nudish pink hue and, for pigmented lips, check on some natural brown colours.
2. Pick A Colour That Doesn’t Clash With Your Hair Or Eyes
This is especially important if you have dark hair or light coloured eyes—and both of those features tend to clash with even the most subtle of lip tints. But don’t worry, you can always add a little more shine by layering a lipstick or gloss over the top of your lip tint before applying it as a base coat overtop the makeup that you’ve used for your base, like foundation. Go for a shade that complements your hair colour, eye colour, and other features like freckles, and even tattoo placement.
3. Go For One That Is Super Hydrating
Choose a tint that keeps your lips moisturised for hours on end rather than one that loses its hydrating quality spoon after you wear them. At times, some lip tints make your lips feel dryer rather than keeping it moisturised. So, look for a tint that is creamy, balmy, and comfortable to wear, but not too thick or opaque at the same time.
4. Opt For One That Is Long-Lasting
Selecting a lip tint that doesn’t last long eliminates the purpose of using it. While swatching lip tints, rub the colour with a finger to check whether it gets smudged easily. If it does, it is a clear sign that you shouldn’t go for it because it is most likely to disappear within a short span of time.
5. Choose A Shade That Make Your Lips Appear Fuller
This is true if you want to make your lips appear fuller. In such a case, go for a berry or coral colour to give you the effect that you desire. However, if you already have a full pout and want your lip tint to reduce the puffiness, go for any hue other than these.
6. Consider Your Eating & Drinking Plans
Take into account how much you drink, eat and smoke, while you purchase your lip tints, because all of which can affect the colour of your lips. Even the most colour-fast tints are most likely to disappear while you eat, drink, and smoke. So, the more you indulge in these activities, the darker should be the colour of your pout. Think about layering your tint with lipstick, so that your lip doesn’t lose its hue. On an average, Lip tints can last up to three hours if applied correctly; however, they can last up to eight hours if worn over regular lipstick.
7. Choose Your Colour Cautiously
The most popular colours include reds, pinks, oranges, and yellows. However, you can also choose from sparkly reds or glittery blues if you prefer a more dramatic look. The occasion does matter, doesn’t it?
8. Go For The Right Flavour
Lip tints are often accompanied with a flavour like vanilla, strawberry, mango, watermelon, orange, cocoa, shea – all the fruity and chocolatey ones. However, non-fragrant ones are also available. Get your hands on the flavours that you have a nose for or skip flavours altogether if they aren’t your thing.
9. Experiment With Tints At Different Times Of The Day
Try on different lip tints at different times of day—your face may naturally change depending on the time of day or season. Lighter tints while there’s still daylight and darker colours after dusk. For example, if it’s cold outside, you’ll probably have more rosy cheeks, if you’re fair. Go for a tint that perfectly complements the natural blush of your cheeks, in that case. There’s a tint for different times of day, different occasions, and moods. Choose them accordingly.
10. Check For Ingredients
It’s best to go for tints that don’t contain any harmful chemicals like SLF, parabens, etc., which could damage or irritate sensitive skin. These chemicals gradually make your lips look darker over the long-term, apart from various other negative effects.
After knowing which shade of lip tint looks best on your skin tone, it’s time to do some research. Try looking up reviews on different brands’ products and compare their features and price tags.
4 Benefits Of Using Lip Tints
Here’s a list of all the benefits of using lip tint during the winter months—so you can keep your pucker soft and beautiful without breaking a sweat.
- When you spend long hours outside in the elements, your lips tend to dry out pretty quickly. Lip tint helps reduce this by sealing in moisture and giving your lips a little boost of hydration throughout the day.
- Lip tint helps prevent chapping and cracking – It’s not just cold air that can cause problems for your lips during winter; wind and rain can also cause them to crack or peel while they’re exposed to these elements on a regular basis. Using lip tint on top of other products will help prevent those unsightly signs of ageing so you can stay looking young!
- Lip tints are designed to work with any makeup routine you already have going on. If you’ve been wearing foundation all day long but still want some colour on your lips, just apply some lip tint instead of foundation before going out!
- Lip tint is a great way to make sure you look your best when it’s cold outside. It’s a great alternative to lip gloss, which can get messy and sticky.
